AFFIRMING the CONSTITUTION... ACHIEVING the DREAM

STEPHEN BRODEN AT THE RESTORING HONOR RALLY

This weekend, Pastor Stephen Broden stood with Glenn Beck in Washington DC at the Restoring Honor Rally. Many of you were in our Nation's Capital standing with him. Many more watched this historic event on television or saw the live stream on Facebook. It was a monumental event, with hundreds of thousands in attendance. Over $5 million was raised for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. If you missed it, you can still watch the entire rally on CSPAN.

EARNING YOUR VOTE

I will work to earn your support and your vote through my commitment to casting my votes in Congress based on the Constitution and in support of the ideas of limited government, the free enterprise system, personal responsibility, individual freedom and honoring life. I reject identity politics, the strategy of dividing people by race, income, gender, sexual preference, etc., then catering to the special interests of each segment. I believe we can best achieve the dream by affirming the Founder’s values set forth first in the Declaration of Independence and then in the Constitution, so I support the idea of honoring each individual as worthy and capable of pursuing their right to life, liberty and the promise of the fulfillment of happiness through pursuing their dreams unfettered by an over controlling and overtaxing federal government.

Conservative principles rooted in the Constitution promote the general welfare of all in our nation, and enhance freedom and prosperity. I am committed to stand with those values.

MY PROMISE TO YOU

I will work tirelessly to stop the out-of-control borrowing and spending, to shrink and ultimately work to eliminate the debt, and to reduce the size and power of the federal government. I am grounded in the idea of limited government as set forth in the Constitution. In particular, I will work to repeal the healthcare bill which, if left intact, will ultimately reduce the quality of and access to healthcare, drive up the cost, and lead to rationing. The best healthcare system on the earth should be as free of government entanglement as possible. I will also do all I can to reduce the scope and reach of federal regulation, and to keep taxes on American workers, families and businesses low, so that our freedoms and our private enterprise system can prosper.

FAVORITISM IS UNACCEPTABLE

The favoritism shown by distributing scholarship funds to family members of Congresswoman Johnson and members of her staff is absolutely unacceptable. I am deeply disappointed that qualified students within the district who were in desperate need of financial support were unable to receive scholarships. A total of 23 scholarships spanning five years were awarded to students who not only did not live inside the district, but also received the awards simply because they were family members. This cannot be explained by claiming ignorance of the rules -- it is clearly a case of nepotism.

Congressional Black Caucus members have access to $10,000 annually for scholarships. This money comes from private and corporate donations, and the members have great leeway in picking scholarship winners. As you would expect, there is an anti-nepotism rule attached to the awards, and winners are required to live or study in the lawmaker's district. Most of the recipients chosen by Johnson were in violation of both those rules.

The primary obligation of any elected official is to represent the interests and needs of his or her constituents. Favoritism and impropriety should not be permitted, but both seem to be in play in the distribution of these scholarship funds. It is impossible to believe that so few students needing financial assistance reside in the 30th District. Ms. Johnson needs to be held accountable for the impropriety, and for failing to support so many needy students inside the district she was elected to serve.

I am running for U.S. Congress from District 30 in Texas. Please join the fight today by DONATING as much as possible, and by VOLUNTEERING to help in any way you can.

NO-BID LOVE FIELD CONTRACTS
It is in the best interest of the city and all parties involved to avoid all appearances of impropriety. A competitive and open bidding process is essential in order to engender a sense of confidence among the citizens of Dallas that their city leaders take serious their stewardship responsibilities to serve their best interest.

NO MORE PLANTATION POLITICS!
...Plantation Politics—the belief by Washington politicians that they can control our lives, and that there is nothing we can do about it. They have proven their arrogance by passing laws that reach into every nook and cranny of America life.

SOLVE THE DEBT CRISIS--FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION!
Irresponsible federal spending is only the symptom of an underlying problem. The real problem is the refusal of the federal government to operate within the bounds of the Constitution, and to limit its laws, regulations, spending and reach, to areas of American life where it is supposed to operate.

THE NAACP IS WRONG!
The NAACP’s July 13th resolution denouncing the Tea Party movement as “racist” raises more doubts about the discernment and judgment of those who voted at the NAACP convention, than about the Tea Party itself.

THE TEA PARTY VISION FOR GOVERNING
The Tea Partiers ... seek a government that will honor the Constitution, restore fiscal discipline and repeal overreaching legislation like the so-called "health care" bill.

WAKE UP, AMERICA...WHILE WE SLEPT, FREEDOM WAS ATTACKED
They call it “reform” but it’s another 2000 plus page power-grab that will constrict the private sector, empower Washington bureaucrats, and impose massive taxes and regulatory costs on businesses - costs that will ultimately be borne by all consumers.
